What does it mean to travel “under the radar?”
It means off the beaten path…mostly solo…but not necessarily alone. Join Hostelling International-Minnesota for its February Travelers Circle. The featured speaker will tell stories of nearly 30 years worth of life-changing cycling journeys across Europe, New Zealand, Australia and Asia.

The Travelers Circle is a free program and discussion, open to the public. It’s taking place Thursday, February 21, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Hostelling International Minnesota Council office, 622 Selby Avenue, St. Paul (above the Mississippi Market Co-op at Selby & Dale).

Have you ever dreamed of traveling solo, or are you at least thinking of straying from throngs of tourists the next time you venture somewhere? Join this discussion to learn what’s easy, what’s difficult and what’s so fulfilling about it. Feel free to bring your questions, your own stories to share, or just sit back and listen to what this modern-day explorer has to say.

About Travelers Circles: These events are held every third Thursday of the month and focus on a different destination or travel topic each time. They are free, open to the public and discussion is encouraged!

About HI-Minnesota: The Minnesota Council of Hostelling International USA is a 501©(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting international travel and cultural exchange. Our mission is “to develop culturally sensitive world citizens through educational programs, promotion of responsible travel, and positive hostelling experiences.”

News you can use

Choose your school

Saturday is School Choice Day in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. If you’re the parent of a student, you have the opportunity to send your child to either the public school in your neighborhood or a magnet school. You also have the opportunity to send your child to a charter or a private school. Both school districts, and metro-area charter schools, are planning one-stop information fairs where, they say, you can find out all you need to know about schools where you might want to send your child. Weekend What's What 1/8-1/11: Hunt and gather

Way to bounce back! The Twin Cities seem to have easily shaken off their holiday lethargy just in time for a pretty rockin’ weekend. Art exhibits, which have been on holiday hiatus as of late, are back in full effect; while rock shows and dance parties continue to ignite flames all over town. Our suggestion? Go out on the prowl! Meet some new people, see some new sights, and experience some fresh excitement. It is 2009 after all (an excuse we’ll be using throughout January, if not February). MORE »
