Along with other organizations, the Minnesota Cuba Committee will be sponsoring a send-off dinner and program at St. Albert the Great Church. $10.00 admission (no one turned away for lack of funds) will include a Cuban plate by Victor Valens. The program will include past and current caravanistas, Cuban music and the best mojitos in town.
Between June 14 and July 14, 2008, the 19th US-Cuba Friendshipment Caravan will travel on 15 different routes to visit more than 125 US and Canadian cities. The caravan will travel in school buses, trucks, cars and a bookmobile to Cuba via Mexico with medical and educational supplies donated by groups across the US and Canada as a collective challenge to the US government’s immoral. Inhuman and internationally condemned blockade of Cuba .
The caravan will spend 8 days in Cuba, attending and participating in cultural events, and visiting social projects such as organic farms, homes for the elderly and health centers including the Latin American School of Medicine where 120 US students from economically deprived communities are training to be doctors under free scholarships provided by the Cuban government. Participants will meet and learn from Cubans at every level about the problems caused by the blockade and the ways they have creatively responded.
The caravan will then return to Texas via Mexico, proudly declaring its travel to Cuba and its opposition to the blockade and ban on travel to Cuba
Sponsors include the Minnesota Cuba Committee, Haiti Justice Committee, St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church,
St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church
