Event Description:

This year’s annual meeting will take place at Farview Park on Thursday, September 25th from 6-9PM!

The evening of free food and entertainment will start at 6 PM and our special keynote speaker is Inspector Mike Martin of the City of Minneapolis Police Department. He will speak on a variety of issues and his experiences with the city and our community.

This is a free dinner for the community and all residents, businesses and other community stake holders are invited to join us as we take a look at
our year in review and give our annual report to the community. Daycare will be provided that evening for families, but please RSVP by September 15th if possible.

There will be door prizes, entertainment, and other special activities and give-aways. The annual meeting is also important because this is the opportunity to vote in new members to the Hawthorne Neighborhood Council board of directors. There are 8 seats open in all 4 residential quadrants, as well as at-large and other special positions, including seats to represent business, non-profit and youth interests. If you are interested in becoming a board member, there’s still time to apply.

Contact HNC and by calling their office at (612) 529-6033 or e-mail HNC at chair@hawthornecommunity.org.

News you can use

Choose your school

Saturday is School Choice Day in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. If you’re the parent of a student, you have the opportunity to send your child to either the public school in your neighborhood or a magnet school. You also have the opportunity to send your child to a charter or a private school. Both school districts, and metro-area charter schools, are planning one-stop information fairs where, they say, you can find out all you need to know about schools where you might want to send your child. Weekend What's What 1/8-1/11: Hunt and gather

Way to bounce back! The Twin Cities seem to have easily shaken off their holiday lethargy just in time for a pretty rockin’ weekend. Art exhibits, which have been on holiday hiatus as of late, are back in full effect; while rock shows and dance parties continue to ignite flames all over town. Our suggestion? Go out on the prowl! Meet some new people, see some new sights, and experience some fresh excitement. It is 2009 after all (an excuse we’ll be using throughout January, if not February). MORE »
