Returning favorites—Live Action Set (Part 4)

by Matthew A. Everett • July 5, 2008 • Can we have a moratorium on the number of productions that members or collaborators of Live Action Set are involved in in this year’s Fringe? Not that I begrudge them a prodigious artistic output or anything, but if they add any more to their list, I’ll never get around to talking about anybody else.

The latest wrinkle…

Kafka’s Disgusting Tale of Transformation, A Buffon’s Metamorphosis

Single White Fringe Geek (and Mom) is the blog of Matthew A. Everett, one of five bloggers covering the Minnesota Fringe Festival for the Daily Planet.

Hey, it worked for The Glass Menagerie last year.

Blurb…

“Galen Treuer and Noah Bremer of Live Action Set team up with Hopkin’s Main Street for the Performing Arts to bring you this outrageous Buffoon clown monstrosity of Kafka’s literary ‘classic’.”

So, what’s with the quotes? Is “The Metamorphosis” suddenly not a classic anymore?

(Wikipedia? “The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed into a ‘monstrous vermin.’”

Commonly (misconstrued apparently) thought to be a cockroach.)

For a while it was just called “META” (because, you know, that’s so meta)

For those, like me, who need reminding about their clown lore – a Bouffon link here

Teens plus Violence and Adult Language equals Clown Monstrosity.

I wonder if I can get them to produce my show, too.

News you can use

Choose your school

Saturday is School Choice Day in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. If you’re the parent of a student, you have the opportunity to send your child to either the public school in your neighborhood or a magnet school. You also have the opportunity to send your child to a charter or a private school. Both school districts, and metro-area charter schools, are planning one-stop information fairs where, they say, you can find out all you need to know about schools where you might want to send your child. Weekend What's What 1/8-1/11: Hunt and gather

Way to bounce back! The Twin Cities seem to have easily shaken off their holiday lethargy just in time for a pretty rockin’ weekend. Art exhibits, which have been on holiday hiatus as of late, are back in full effect; while rock shows and dance parties continue to ignite flames all over town. Our suggestion? Go out on the prowl! Meet some new people, see some new sights, and experience some fresh excitement. It is 2009 after all (an excuse we’ll be using throughout January, if not February). MORE »
